This article is written for my Brother and Sister Cops. It’s our view of the world we live in and uses our everyday language to describe it. So, if you’re a civilian or easily offended, be warned: you wading into some very tough, direct, sometimes brutal language. If the thought of that upsets you, make a ‘U-Turn’ and go read Good Housekeeping.

STRANGER THAN FICTION. YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP.

I just finished an article announcing that residents of a north-side Minneapolis neighborhood are suing the city.  Complaint? They believe they are receiving inadequate police protection.

No shit.

Where were these assholes when our television screens were filled with scumbags in Minneapolis demanding that the local cop shop be disbanded? Fact is, they were really pissed because all the city council was willing to do was defund the agency and call for improvements.

I did some digging into the demographics of the north side of Minneapolis. Racial mix: 56% Black, 15% White, 29% Other. Income:  53% of the households earn $35K, or less.

Not exactly a wealthy area. These folks probably deal with a higher crime rate than they’d like. In short, they need the cops – as many as they can have.

What the hell did these resident morons think would happen?

DAILY NEWS

The fact is, a whole lot of cops have just tuned-out. They are living the daily news; they have no desire to see it recapped on TV. Who can blame them? But, I want to share a simple overview of some of the makings of this mess we are currently experiencing.

Atlanta.  We have seen two of our brothers in Atlanta sacrificed by Loser Leaders in an attempt to satisfy the mob. It appears that Mob-Rule is the order of the day. These two cops have likely lost a career that they wanted and worked hard to get. Their lives have been irreparably harmed.

All for the sake of trying to save a politician’s ass in an election. Thank God, he lost. Screw him.

NYPD.  The mayor cut a billion (that’s with a ‘B’) dollars from the department budget. That’s the thanks those cops got for enduring the disrespect coming from no-good, mother-fucking, slime on the street who pelted our Brothers and Sisters with bricks, frozen water bottles, bags of piss and shit. And those cops were forbidden from taking action against the good-for-nothing dickheads.

Portland.  That crew has endured Hell-on-Earth and the son-of-a-bitch who has the title of Police Commissioner hates everything that’s good about America including anyone in a blue uniform – including you and me. Ted Wheeler’s actions against the Portland cops have been so vile that there isn’t a form of punishment severe enough, painful enough, horrific enough to ever repay him for the life-long damage he has inflicted on cops whom we swore to take a bullet for.

Torture is supposed to be illegal in our country.

So is cruel and unusual punishment.

Just consider for a moment what has been done to our brothers in these cities:

  • Los Angeles
  • San Francisco
  • Chicago
  • Washington D.C.
  • Dallas

Without doubt, in all of these instances, pain was inflicted by a combination of failed law enforcement ‘leaders’ and the local elected officials.

Wasn’t it the mayor of Seattle who said after the center of her city was taken over by enemy combatants that she looked forward to a, “… summer of love?” Just how fucking stupid is she? I’ve heard that she’s so stupid that she couldn’t pour piss out of a boot if the directions were on the heel.

DON’T BE SURPRISED

Crime is also surging in Aurora, Colorado, as police officers elect to ‘walk away’ from calls on alleged criminals rather than get into potentially violent conflicts.

Major violent crimes in Aurora have surged 24.4% in the first nine months of 2020 compared to the same span of time last year, according to local TV station CBS4. “Crime across the board is going up. We’re having a lot of problems,” Aurora City Councilman Dave Gruber said.

From the first nine months of 2019 to the first nine months of 2020, murders are up 72%, armed assaults are up 34.3% and robberies were up 31% according to stats from the same local station.

In addition to local leadership who couldn’t find their ass with both hands, blame also goes to state Senate Bill 217. It was signed into law in June. It made many changes to the way we do business. The goal was to create more police accountability.

Here’s is the unexpected outcome that the Legislative Losers failed to see coming: cops are much less inclined to put themselves into a chaotic situation. Rules governing police conduct are so strict as to make legal enforcement much more difficult and dangerous.

The bill has, “profoundly changed the way police use force or interact with the public,” their union president said.

IS THIS WHAT ‘REFORMING POLICE’ MEANS?

As the events of recent months have unfolded, I kept thinking to myself, “It can’t get any worse.” But then, it does. I consider what I would do, were I still on the street, full-time.

The first answer is obvious: I would cut-back or stop doing proactive work. I remember more than once, the guys on my crew would take their calls from the 7-11. Note: some guys would park behind the store or somewhere else that’s out-of-sight so it didn’t look like we were having a cop convention in the store. Makes sense.

The second answer gets more reasonable as the so-called leaders and shitheads on the street become more unreasonable.

When responding to 911 calls for service, cops are just walking away, when possible. This is becoming the reaction of choice – especially if the suspect is a minority. Leave the scene with no arrest. If the situation demands it, get a warrant before attempting an arrest.

Don’t put yourself out there.

Don’t take the risk.

It’s not worth it.

THE REALITY ON THE GROUND

There are many lessons that we learned as we went through the academy. There were more as we went through sixteen weeks with an F.T.O.  In addition to the formal training was the really important stuff: the lessons of the street. I learned by doing. Those are the lessons which have stuck with me.

We came to internalize the belief that if we followed Constitution, the statutes, case law and department policy, the department leaders would have our backs. Always.

Did we occasionally face a jerk-off sergeant, LT or chief?  You betcha. But, they were the exception. Everyone knew that those guys would turn on you like snake, to save their own asses. No surprises there.

That has changed.  Now, we find too many agencies who have people in the chief or sheriff’s office and their only skill is kissing the asses of the politicians above them. Most of their time was spent planning for their next job.

Where will they be if you get into a critical incident on the street? They’ll be busy holding press conferences announcing to the world that you are rogue cop whose behavior can’t be validated.  More simply: you’ll be fucked.

None of us want to be the next YouTube star.

You can’t avoid the crap that falls in your lap. But, you sure as hell aren’t forced to go out looking to get into shit, either.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO, NOW?

Today is the day to have a serious conversation with yourself.

Do your best to figure out if your chief, deputy chief and maybe even the mayor, are good-for-their-word, solid American men whom you can stake your life upon. Alternately is the chief a cock-sucking pussy who would sell his own mother to get another step higher on his ladder to success.

You need to make that determination for yourself.  Now.  Your life depends on it.

If your chief (sheriff) is one of us, one of the guys who will go to the mat for his men then …

Go out today and be the cop you’ve always wanted to be. Enforce the law. Protect the weak. Love the hurting. When appropriate, kick ass and take names later.

If you have the least doubt about the ‘leaders’ (?) in your agency, pick out a location where you can hide-out for the duration of upcoming shifts and not be in the way. Of course, you don’t want to get caught, either.

There will always be 7-11 (or your local equivalent). In lots of towns you can hang out at the fire station in your area – but be careful not to encroach on anyone’s assigned La-Z-Boy. Keep your car handy, but out of sight. Pickup a newspaper, grab your cell phone and portable radio and stay on the D-L.

Then, it’s easy-street for you.

Until, things in your city get shitty enough that the candy-asses on council decide that they really do want a police department, after all.

Conclusion:  please let me know how things work out for you. Don’t ignore the possibility of shopping for a new agency who wants you and allows you to actually be a cop. There are lots of good deals out there for laterals, right now. Choose carefully.

The Crew here at CopBlue truly wants to help you in every way we can. If you need an ear or have a question, get in touch. We’ll be there for you.

“Above all, it’s about going home at the end of the shift … “

We couldn’t agree more.

To our BROTHERS and SISTERS in BLUE:   We have now arrived at the time in the ELECTION SEASON when each of us MUST pay close attention to what candidates are saying. Every person we elect in November can affect our lives as cops.  Will we THRIVE, just get by or will we DIE?

  • Consider the disaster created in New York by Mayor Bill DiBlasio.
  • Look at the number of cops who have been critically injured by the Portland District Attorney, Mike Schmidt.
  • We cannot ignore how cops have been blamed for the problems in places like Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Baltimore and other cities where civilization has damned near crumbled.
  • Don’t think that school boards are immune. Last Saturday, Steven Lysenko of Spencerport High School, went on a tirade against police officers for targeting protesters in Rochester by yelling, “Fuck the Police!”
  • Last, but most important, is the top job: the Presidency. Electing Joe Biden would have a horribly deep, permanent and (in some cases) fatal effect on every cop in the nation.

EVERY ONE OF US MUST PAY ATTENTION AND GET INVOLVED.

OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT.

Thank you for supporting CopBlue.
